  Although the chrome "ears" echoed the more three-dimensional vertical bumper caps that
  terminated the rear quarters of the 1967-sixty eight Imperials, in fact, the 1969 Imperial's rear finish
  bore greater than a passing resemblance to the 1965-68 Cadillacs.
  Moreover, the higher and decrease horizontal parts of the Imperial's loop
  bumper integrated chamfered surfaces designed to catch the light, complicating the transition to a vertical floor at the fender opening.
  Designing a loop bumper is difficult. The company's
  stamping knowledgeable, Ted Halloway, was involved that after the
  loop bumper was stamped, it could "rock," meaning that the vertical ends would bend
  away from one another in opposite directions. Imperial adopted a loop-type entrance bumper,
  vee'd in plan view, with peaked vertical ends that projected forward
  and wrapped themselves across the fenders ends -- very bold,
  but elegant. Now, all but a number of cars have disc brakes
  on at least their front wheels -- most have disc brakes
  on all 4 corners.
